Commercial driver licensing in West Virginia is issued by the West Virginia DMV in accordance with FMCSA standards. Knowledge tests cover general commercial driving, plus endorsement-specific tests for air brakes, hazardous materials (with TSA threat assessment), passenger transport, school bus, tank vehicles and double/triple trailers. The skills test (pre-trip inspection, basic control and road test) is administered after passing the knowledge tests and obtaining a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP).
